Connect ChatGPT to your to-do list
Connect ChatGPT to AI TODO List and the chat you already live in becomes a to-do list you can talk to. Say "add buy milk and call the dentist for tomorrow" in the middle of a conversation and both tasks are on your board, with the due date set. Ask "what is due today?" and ChatGPT reads the real list instead of guessing.
AI TODO List is not in the ChatGPT app directory yet. Until it is, you add it yourself through ChatGPT's developer mode, which lets you connect your own MCP server. It takes about three minutes, and you sign in with the same email code you use on the web. No password or API key is copied anywhere.
What you need
- An AI TODO List account. Sign in at the homepage with your email.
- A ChatGPT plan that includes developer mode (Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise at the time of writing; the free tier does not).
- ChatGPT on the web, where developer mode and connectors are managed.
Your connection address
The setup below uses this address, the AI TODO List MCP server:
Step-by-step setup
Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode. This unlocks the Create button that lets you add your own connector. On a Business or Enterprise workspace an admin may need to enable it first.
Create the connector
Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create. Name it AI TODO List, paste the address below into the MCP server URL field, choose OAuth as the authentication, and click Create.

ChatGPT opens the AI TODO List sign-in page. Enter your email, type the code we send you, and click Allow. This is the same passwordless login the web app uses.
Use it in a chat
Start a new chat, click the + button and pick AI TODO List under Apps, or just mention it by name the first time: "add 'renew my passport' to my AI TODO List". After that, task questions flow naturally.
What you can do once connected
Once connected, ChatGPT sees the same board you do: the lists, the tasks, their tags and due dates. Things people actually say:
- Add buy milk and call the dentist for tomorrow.
- What is due today, and what is overdue?
- I finished the tax return. Tick it off.
- Plan my day: pick the three tasks I should do first.
- Move everything tagged errands to In progress.
- Tidy my board: archive what is done and flag anything older than a month.
Every change lands on the same board you see in the browser, right away. Tasks can be archived but never deleted by the assistant, so nothing is lost to a misread prompt.
Troubleshooting
I cannot find Developer mode in Settings.
Developer mode lives under Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings on the web version of ChatGPT, and only on plans that include it. On a workspace plan, ask your admin to enable connectors for members.
The connector is created, but ChatGPT does not use it.
Start a new chat and either pick AI TODO List from the + menu or name it in your message. ChatGPT never calls a connector on its own; the first request in a chat has to come from you.
The sign-in window never appears, or closes right away.
Allow pop-ups for chatgpt.com and try again. The sign-in step opens the AI TODO List login page in a separate window.
Frequently asked questions
Why is AI TODO List not in the ChatGPT app directory?
Directory listings go through OpenAI's review, which takes time. The connector itself is the same one a directory listing would use, so nothing changes for you when the listing lands except that the developer-mode steps go away. The guide will be updated when that happens.
Is it safe to let an AI assistant touch my to-do list?
The connection is limited on purpose: the assistant can add, edit, move, complete, reopen and archive tasks, but it can never delete one. Archived tasks keep their history and can be restored. You can disconnect the assistant at any time from its own connector settings.
Do I need a paid AI TODO List subscription?
Yes, using the board from an assistant needs an active subscription, the same one subscription that covers the web app and every connection. The yearly plan starts with a free month, so you can set the connection up and use it for a month before anything is charged.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants talk to outside tools. AI TODO List hosts an MCP server, so any assistant that supports it can read and change your board without a plugin or an API key. You sign in once with an email code.
Do changes made by the assistant show up in the web app?
Yes, right away. The assistant works on the same board you see in the browser, so a task added from a chat is on the board before you switch tabs, and a task you drag to Done in the browser is what the assistant reads next time you ask.
